About

We are KYOSHINKAN, a traditional style dojo located in Cartersville, Georgia under the direction of Sensei Lenny Jordan.

We come from very traditional training taught to us by Hanshi James Herndon of the Orlando, Florida area.

While training with Hanshi Herndon at his Dojo (Kensei-Kai), I studied Shorin-Ryu Karate of the Kenshin-Kai system of Japan, and the Shito-ryu Karate of the Seishin-Kai of Osaka, Japan.

As a student of Hanshi Herndon, I had the opportunity to train under two great instructors. The first was Soke Shogo Kuniba of the Motobu-Ha Shito-Ryu system, and the other was Shihan Tsutomu Wataname of the Shorin-Ryu system.

At KYOSHINKAN, we strive to teach as I was first taught, with traditional values and methods. Many schools that teach Karate often work toward the sport side of Karate. We do participate in the tournament (sport) side, but use this as a personal training tool that will help students learn to work with others. Our goal is to develop the individual as a well balanced person and not a sport star.

The karate taught at KYOSHINKAN is a blending of Shorin Ryu and Shito Ryu. To eliminate confusion, we call this blending KYOSHINKAN Karate.
